Tattoo Aftercare

Bandage

When you leave the studio your tattoo will be covered with a bandage. Leave this on for at least 1-4 hours. If you do take it off, re-cover the tattoo before going to bed, (kitchen roll may be used) this is because it will naturally weep some ink overnight which will stain clothing or sheets. It may do this for the first couple of nights.

After the first night do not recover your tattoo during the day unless you are travelling (eg flying home) or wearing clothing that will rub heavily on the scab.

Healing Time

Your tattoo will form a scab as part of the healing process. It should be healed within 10-14 days. Some flaking of the skin is completely normal during healing, but DO NOT EVER pick the scab which will cause a loss of colour!!! Remember to apply cream!

Should I put any cream on it?

Yes, we recommend Savlon, Bepanthol or Preparation H at least twice a day for the at least the first 5 days. Keep your tattoo moist but not soggy. Continue moisturising using a fragrance free moisturiser for 1-3 weeks or until all signs of irritation are gone. Applying cream will help soothe the itchy feeling and reduce the desire to scratch or pick while your tattoo is healing.

Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo! Treat your tattoo just like an open wound.

Can I shower or wash with my new tattoo?

Yes, you can shower as normal but try to avoid baths or any prolonged soaking of the skin which will loosen or soften the scab too much. Use a fragrance free soap or shower gel to avoid stinging.

Can I swim once I've had a tattoo?

No, you should not swim once you've had a tattoo - and especially KEEP OUT OF SWIMMING POOLS. Swimming Pools breed germs which can get into your wound and cause infection and chlorine can take the colour out of your tattoo.

Can I sunbathe with my new tattoo?

NO! Keep your tattoo out of the sun while it is healing (at least for the first 5 days) as the sun will cause fading. If you must be in the sun, apply a cover.
